Session 3 – Sunday 31st October at 10.30am GMT

Get your pens out! Join me Itamar Srulovich for a fun and interactive food writing course. Over the three sessions I hope to inspire you and help enhance your writing style and technique. Whether you’re an aspiring writer or critic, working on a blog or book proposal, or in it purely for the food, I’m so excited to spend time with you on all things food and writing. The course consists of three 1-hour online sessions in a small group with lots of practical writing tasks to really get things going creatively – you will finish the course with a fully-formed and polished 500-600-word piece that you are really proud of!

The course

In our first session I'll start by introducing types of food writing, exploring some favourite writers and we will road test a few different writing techniques together. Your homework after this session will be choosing and preparing a meal or dish which will form the anchor of your final piece.

The second session will be all about getting down to it with your pen and paper: you’ll flesh out the story of your piece about what you have cooked – what are you trying to say, how does it end? By the end of this session, you’ll have developed a real appetite for your subject. Homework will be bringing your piece together into a first draft of 600-800 words.

The third and final session will be all about editing, the most important part of our work as writers. I'll introduce techniques that take a piece from a hatchet-job first draft to a sleek second, and then really drill down into the details to refine your piece. By this stage you’ll have your finished piece, or very close to it. Finally, we will talk about how to read each other’s work and to critique it in a way that is beneficial to us and to the writer. You will be encouraged to share your finished work with the group on a shared blog and to comment there.

Practicalities

The course consists of three 1-hour live sessions in the morning to be held online via zoom:

Session 2 – Thursday 28th October at 10.30am GMT

Session 3 – Sunday 31st October at 10.30am GMT

We will contact you with zoom joining instructions before the class. You will receive these one week before the class and again on the day of each class.

The class will be small and friendly with plenty of opportunity to learn and develop ideas. I will encourage you to use your own voice and so we will not share our pieces until the very end.

We cannot offer refunds if you find you are unable to attend part of the course.

If you feel like this course is for you but you can't afford it right now drop me a line and tell me a bit about you, we reserve two seats at the table so everyone can tell their food story. Write to me at enquiries@honeyandco.co.uk to explain your situation.

If this is a gift please be sure to enter the name and email address of the recipient so that they receive the details of the course too.
